The shape of the work

We describe our work without naming clients. Buildings we secure and the people who run them deserve discretion, so what follows is the kind of work we do and what tends to be difficult about it, with no names attached by policy.

Hotels and hospitality

A hotel does not get an open ended programme. There is a date the rooms have to be sellable and every trade is working back from it in the same corridors. The technology scope runs as one package, guest floors are handed back in blocks so rooms can be released rather than waiting on the whole property, and the front desk is trained before the first guest arrives.

The hard part is sequencing rather than any individual system.

Case in point: a national hotel portfolio

A hospitality group operating hotels across Canada needed its surveillance brought up to one standard. Each property had grown its own system over the years: different recorders, different coverage logic, footage that was there for some incidents and missing for others, and no way for the group to see across properties.

We standardized the approach rather than the brand of every camera: coverage designed from entrances and guest areas outward, recording and retention set to one policy, and visibility consolidated so an incident at any property could be reviewed without a site visit. Work was sequenced around operating hotels, floor by floor, with rooms and public areas never out of service.

The measure of the project is the one that matters in hospitality: when something happens now, the footage exists, it covers the right places, and the person who needs it can reach it. Names withheld by policy; the reference call is available on request.

High rise and multi residential

Residents move in and out constantly, so the daily work is credentials issued and revoked rather than anything to do with installation. Intercom, suite locks, perimeter doors, garage and cameras sit on one system so a small management team can keep up with it.

The measure of these buildings is how long it takes to hand a new resident their access and take the previous one away.

Corporate offices

Fit outs are decided by the cabling, because it is the one thing that cannot easily be redone later. Desks, meeting rooms, access control and cameras all land back on the same structured cabling, and the rooms are made to start the same way so people do not hesitate walking into an unfamiliar one.

Accessible and universal washrooms

These are three systems that have to agree with each other: the operator, the lock status and the emergency call. The failure modes are specific and they are the reason this work gets commissioned as a sequence rather than as three separate parts.
